{私|わたし}の{母|はは}は{先生|せんせい}です。お{母|かあ}さんはお{元気|げんき}ですか。

This switch happens all the time. About your own mother you often say 母 (haha); when you ask about someone else’s, you use お母さん (okāsan). Humble vs polite family words show up as soon as people talk about home.
