これ/それ/あれ/どれ
これはNounです。
これら stand alone as “this/that/which one.” これ is near the speaker, それ near the listener, あれ far from both, どれ asks which.

Kore wa hon desu.

この/その/あの/どの + Noun

When a noun follows, use この/その/あの/どの instead of これ/それ/あれ/どれ.
- このかばんは私のです。
Kono kaban wa watashi no desu.
This bag is mine.

Dono hon desu ka.

Nounはどこですか。
Same near/far pattern for places: here, there near you, over there, where.

Nounじゃないです — polite negative
XはYじゃないです。
To say something is not X, use Noun + じゃないです (casual polite). じゃないです is common in speech; ではありません is more formal.
- これは私の本じゃないです。
Kore wa watashi no hon ja nai desu.
This is not my book.
- 医者じゃないです。
Isha ja nai desu.
I’m not a doctor.
- これは私の本じゃないです。
誰の — whose
誰のNounですか。
誰 (だれ) means “who.” 誰の before a noun asks “whose.”
- これは誰のかばんですか。
Kore wa dare no kaban desu ka.
Whose bag is this?
- あれは誰の本ですか。
Are wa dare no hon desu ka.
Whose book is that?
- これは誰のかばんですか。
います — people and animals exist
Nounがいます。
For living things, use います instead of あります. Numbers come before the noun: 二人います.
- 弟が二人います。
Otooto ga futari imasu.
I have two younger brothers.
- 公園に犬がいます。
Kooen ni inu ga imasu.
There is a dog in the park.
